Knitting Company and arranged with him that he should hide

under the bed.

On the Friday these arrangements were

carried out Mrs. Xavier stood on the Balcony ready to

warn her husband and her brother who were in the room if

she saw Mr. Bullin coming to the house. At about half

past two Mrs. Xavier observed Mr. Bullin approaching the

house; she thereupon gave a signal to her husband and

her brother to conceal themselves in the manner arranged;

the Inspector came to the Flat,knocked, and was admitted

by Mrs. Xavier, Mr. Rullin according to the account of

Mrs. Xavier, hết husband and her brother, kissed Ers, Xavier

and began to undress himself. The two men broke from

their concealment and gave Mr. Bullin a somewhat savara

thrashing. Mr. Bullin went to a Chinese kitchen from

which he sent for a change of uniform, his own being

spattered with blood and having cleaned himself as well as

he could, went home. Mr. Xavier and Mr. Botelho then in-

mediately went and reported the result of th ir proceedings
